Scholarship winners 2001Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research offers two bursaries to Maori students enrolled as full-time and internal students in the Institute of Natural Resources (College of Sciences) and School of Resource and Environmental Planning (College of Humanities & Social Sciences) at Turitea campus, Massey University. Each bursary is worth $2000.


  • Applications are restricted to full-time students of New Zealand Maori descent who are studying internally at Turitea campus, MasseyUniversity.
  • One bursary will target Maori students in their final year of study for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Natural Resource Management or equivalent programme or postgraduate Maori students enrolled in a diploma, honours or masterate programme related to resource management, Maori resource development, environmental studies or an equivalent programme. PhD students will not be considered.
  • One bursary will target undergraduate Maori students enrolled in the Bachelor of Resource and Environmental Planning degree.

Manaaki Whenua Scholarship Winners


  • Recipients will be determined on their academic merit in the appropriate courses and their commitment to kaupapa Maori.
  • Applicants may be asked to attend an interview with the bursaryselection committee.
  • Recipients will receive the bursary for one academic year only.
  • Recipients will be expected to interact with Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research staff at least once during the year. To facilitate this, Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research will appoint a mentor for each person from within the company. They will also be expected to deliver a presentation to Manaaki Whenua Landcare Research on a relevant aspect of their study programme.
  • Payment of the bursary to successful applicants will be made directly to Massey Universty (Fees Office) as a contribution to their course costs.
  • Decisions on the successful applicants will be made by the selection panel in March and applicants will be notified during April. Decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Recipients will be asked to report to the Bursary Selection Committee on their academic progess by 31 August of the current year of the bursary.
