OTHER MAORI SCHOLARSHIPS
Manaaki Tauira education grants for
Maori students. Financial assistance provided by
Specialist Education Services for Maori students undertaking tertiary study.
The programme is to assist NZ Maori students with part payment of Tuition Fees
when they have been accepted into an accredited course.
Grants reimburse a proportion of tuition fees with the level of grant dependent
on the number of successful applicants
The Ministry of
Education has a programme known as Manaaki Tauira which gives financial
assistance to Maori students at all levels of tertiary study. Application forms
can be obtained from the Scholarships Officer or Kaitautoko Maori within the
university (all campuses) and must be lodged by 10 March annually for full year
study programmes or 31 July annually for students in programmes beginning in
the second semester.
Maori Education Trust
Scholarships provided for Maori students studying at an undergraduate level
or Postgraduate level. The scholarships are administered by the Maori Education
Trust. The number and value of scholarships depends on the income in any one

Many of the Maori Trust Boards, incorporations and land trusts offer either
scholarships or grants to tertiary students who have the necessary relationship
or whakapapa to them. Information on this type of financial assistance can be
